Chicago missed the mark on the Olympics, but sports might still get a boost at UIC

We're in the middle of soccer & volleyball season here at UIC - which, for those of you that don't know, has a pretty robust Division 1 sports lineup.

UIC is a member of the Horizon League Conference - which is comprised primarily of urban Great Lakes schools. Other members include perennial rival, Loyola University, Butler, Valpo, Univ. of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and more!

Currently, we field 18 men's and women's teams, with some impressive records - just to note a couple: Men's soccer has been to the Sweet Sixteen for the last three years in a row, and just decisively defeated Big Ten opponent, Wisconsin 3-0 Wednesday night. Our women's tennis team just received its first national ranking, and hasn't lost a conference match in 12 years.

We've been excited over in the admissions office ever since we heard that UIC is considering its first expansion of its sports program in several years - into Women's Soccer & Women's Bowling. Tryouts are in two weeks - we'll keep you posted. You can get more info at www.uicflames.com.

Until next time.

Will the club merge with the team, or will they continue as separate entities?

As I understand it, the club team should be able to continue, so long as there is interest. This is because the club teams at UIC, unlike the Division I teams, are run by students with the help of the recreation department, rather than being run by the Athletic department.
